The Suite Life: Checking Into New Orleans’ Historic Pontchartrain Hotel
New Orleans is one of the most unique, vibrant, and historic cities in the United States. When I first began planning my visit to “The Big Easy” I knew I wanted to stay in a location that matched the city’s charm and colorful history.
I was immediately drawn to The Pontchartrain Hotel. The 14 story building was originally constructed in 1927, and is located in the beautiful New Orleans Garden District.
This New Orleans gem has played host to famous guests such as Frank Sinatra, Gerald Ford, and even playwright Tennessee Williams, who worked “A Streetcar Named Desire” from within its walls.

Today, The Pontchartrain Hotel has been renovated and blends the grandeur of its past with modern taste and design, creating a welcoming and unique luxury stay for those looking to experience New Orleans in style.
I am a huge lover of all things history (and all things Instagram-worthy!) and the Pontchartrain Hotel totally provides both. Did I mention there is even a rooftop bar? Keep reading to see why I fell in love with the Pontchartrain Hotel-and why you will too!
Checking In: The Pontchartrain Hotel
From the moment you first approach The Pontchartrain Hotel, you get a sense of the luxury location’s history. The St. Charles Avenue streetcar even passes right in front of the hotel doors. This is not only incredibly quaint but perfect for those (like me!) looking to head downtown for some sightseeing.
Upon arriving, the incredibly friendly and helpful hotel staff will check you in and hand you an actual room key! And no, I’m not talking about the plastic kind, The Pontchartrain Hotel still uses historic keys which you can keep at the front desk for safekeeping while you are out and about. This totally reminded me of the hotels in Europe, and was a detail I found to be super charming.

The staff at the front desk will also give you an overview of the surrounding area, as well as the hotel amenities. There are 4 different places to dine/drink on premises. The Bayou Bar, Caribbean Room, Silver Whistle Cafe, and Hot Tin bar. While I didn’t have time to dine at each, the Silver Whistle Cafe and Hot Tin bar were excellent!
The Suite Life

Once you check in, you’ll be able to check out your room, and you will quickly see why the hotel was rated one of the best new hotels in the world by Travel and Leisure. The rooms at the Pontchartrain are luxurious, beautifully decorated, comfortable and delightfully spacious. I really appreciated the attention to detail and the tasteful and unique feel that my room had.

The colors were beautiful and created a peaceful, yet trendy atmosphere I loved! New Orleans is quite a bustling city, so being able to retreat to the calm of the Pontchartrain Hotel was the perfect way for me to recharge after a busy day exploring.

The bed was also extremely comfortable, which is essential in my book when looking for a great place to stay.
Hitting the Hot Tin Rooftop Bar

My next favorite thing about The Pontchartrain Hotel is definitely the Hot Tin Rooftop bar. I am completely obsessed with rooftop bars, and am always on the lookout for them whenever I head to a new city. Whether you are a New Orleans local, a hotel guest, or are simply on the hunt for a delicious cocktail and a great view of NOLA, then be sure to stop at the Hot Tin.
The Hot Tin bar offers a 270-degree view of the New Orleans skyline and the Mississippi River. I tried a couple of cocktails, but my favorite was the Gin Gin Mule, a play on a Moscow Mule, which was one of the best cocktails I’ve had.

The bar’s amazing view, well-crafted cocktails, tin roof, and cozy decor make it the perfect place to grab drinks with friends (or even make a few new ones). A stop here is definitely on my list of must-dos in New Orleans!
Overall Thoughts
I had an amazing stay (and some great nights’ sleep) at the Pontchartrain Hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and luxurious place to stay while in New Orleans.
I heard that they offer great Summer rates over the next 3 months…
