My Glamping Getaway at Big Berry Luxury Camp, Slovenia
After spending 1 year city-dwelling in Florence, Italy, there is one thing I’ve sorely missed…nature. A midwest girl at heart, I grew up just a short drive away from sprawling fields, farmland, lakes, and greenery as far as the eye can see. This past week, I had the opportunity to visit Big Berry, a luxury camp in Slovenia where I spent several relaxing yet adventure filled days. Despite being thousands of miles from Illinois, and hundreds of miles from Florence, I somehow felt perfectly at home.
The Luxury of Freedom-Glamping At Its Finest
The Big Berry motto is “The Luxury of Freedom,” and the camp serves as a place where nature and luxury merge to create a winning combination. Visitors of the camp can enjoy all the perks of traditional camping while skipping the inconvenience of setting up complicated tents, lugging camping gear around, and fending off invasive bugs. Instead of worrying about the details of my stay, I was able to sightsee the gorgeous surrounding countryside, enjoy the setting around me, and most importantly relax and recharge.
Location, Location, Location
The Big Berry camp is nestled in the Bela Krajina region of the Slovenian countryside, and each of the luxury homes overlooks the Kolpa River, which also serves as the border between Slovenia and Croatia. The best part of this new, up-and-coming camp is its refreshing atmosphere and the lack of tourists in the area. My recommendation: get here soon before the rest of the world discovers this gem!
Accommodations
Big Berry takes “glamourous” part of glamping to a new level. Visitors to the camp can enjoy the luxuriously designed modern mobile homes, reminiscent of tiny houses, while still feeling incredibly close to nature. The seven homes currently at the camp house 2-6 people and provide luxury worthy of a resort.
Perks included fresh, local produce delivered straight to my door each morning, a fully furnished kitchen (not that I needed to use it thanks to the camp’s included meals!), wi-fi throughout the camp, rainfall shower for relaxing bathing, excellent views, a private patio complete with my own personal jacuzzi, just to name a few.
Needless to say, I did not want to leave the camp as my stay ended. Seriously, the bed was even more comfortable than mine back home!
Things To Do At Camp
Activities in and around the camp abound. I spent my days exploring the Bela Krajina region outside the camp, and my mornings and evenings relaxing back at Big Berry.
At the camp itself visitors can jump in the Kolpa river and enjoy an afternoon swimming, lay out in the camp’s cabanas, relax on Big Berry’s modern and comfortable outdoor furniture, play some beach volleyball at the camp’s court, squeeze in an outdoor workout at the open air gym, or use some of the camp’s bikes or canoes to explore the surrounding area. Even just within the camp, the possibilities are endless.
Final thoughts
My stay at Big Berry was nothing short of amazing. The camp provided me with the relaxation I badly needed, allowed me to connect with nature, and the Big Berry staff helped create an incredible itinerary of things to do and see in the local area. I would love to come back here, and am completely charmed by the Bela Krajina region of Slovenia.
