Czech It Out: Prague Christmas Markets

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The weekend I arrived in Prague marked the first weekend of their Christmas markets, and I was more than excited to not only be able to explore this unique and historic city, but to see it filled with Christmas magic.

The beautifully painted buildings of Prague offer a colorful background for all of the Christmas decorations and lights.

Prague did not disappoint! One of my favorite parts of my trip was seeing the colorful city made even more brilliant with Christmas trees, lights, carolers, and a sea of Christmas shoppers, all looking for the perfect gift or a delicious snack from one of the many vendors. Wooden stalls throughout the city sold a variety of goods such as wood carvings, lace, winter wear, ornaments, jewelry, candles, and more!

As we arrived the day many of the markets first opened, it was great getting to see the stalls after they had been set up and decorated.

The entire city was teeming with holiday cheer. The main Christmas markets are found in Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square, but there were many other smaller markets scattered throughout Prague. It felt like there was a Christmas tree to be found around every corner.

This tree was on of my favorites, although I may be biased by the pink background!

I spent several hours wandering around looking for gifts to bring home to friends and family, but my favorite purchases of the weekend were all food (naturally). The many vendors offered a variety of traditional Czech foods that were delicious.

The market in Old Town Square was particularly busy!

Of course, I had to make a trip to Starbucks (I hadn’t been in months and was craving a holiday drink) and the red holiday cup and gingerbread latte couldn’t have gotten me more in the Christmas spirit.

I may be far away from home, but a visit to Prague had me feeling festive in no time!
