Cruising through Chianti: Adventures on a Vespa
Have you ever cruised through the Tuscan countryside on a pink Vespa? I had the chance to this weekend and it was absolutely exhilarating. If you find yourself in Tuscany, a Vespa tour through Chianti’s rolling hills and vineyards is a must.
Since returning to Florence, the one thing I have been dying to do is to hop on a Vespa and speed through the scenic Chianti region. My wish was finally granted thanks to my friends at Tuscany Cycle , a company specializing in Vespa and biking tours of Chianti as well as bike rentals in Florence.
After a short trip out of Florence, we found ourselves in Chianti, the place responsible for the delicious wines I so often consume in Florence. Also known for the production of olive oil, Chianti’s rich soil is filled with vineyards, olive trees, and picturesque rolling hills, making it the perfect location for a day cruising around on a Vespa.
Our friendly, funny, and informative guide Dejan gave us a quick tutorial on how to drive a Vespa, which prepared us all to take off for the day. If you haven’t ridden a Vespa ever, don’t be afraid, it is easy to pick up once you have a few practice runs! In no time I felt like a pro, ready to take on the open road.
Once the group felt ready to head out, we sped off into the beautiful countryside, painted with the colors of a changing season. I couldn’t get over hoe breathtaking all of the scenery was, and I must admit I had to remind myself more than once to keep my eyes focused on the road ahead!
After making a few stops to take photos and hear some interesting facts about Chianti wines and local olive oil production, we stopped at the Fattoria Lavacchio. At this vineyard we learned all about how the grapes grown in the vineyards surrounding us become the well-known Chianti wines consumed worldwide.
By this time, we were more than ready for lunch and headed to Casabella, also located on the property, to satisfy the appetites we worked up speeding around. We sampled several wines and ate a variety of typical Tuscan cuisine such as bread, prosciutto, eggplant, peppers, pasta, and a tasty dessert.
Between the incredible scenery, good company, and great wine, the day could not have been more perfect. Head over to Tuscany Cycle for your own (miss)adventure cruising through Chianti or to rent a bike! The friendly and experienced staff are sure to make your day fantastic.
I can’t wait to get back on a Vespa again! What is your favorite way to explore the Italian countryside?
